Automotive Parts & Repair Specialist - Full Time

The Village of Skokie is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of full time Automotive Parts & Repair Specialist, supporting the busy and dynamic Automotive division within our Public Works Dept. Working in a state-of-the art facility and under general supervision of the Automotive Supervisor, this position is responsible for providing guidance to internal customers and mechanics regarding automotive parts, repairs, and maintenance services; Assesses internal customer needs, recommending appropriate parts and repair solutions, and coordinates with the Automotive Supervisor to ensure timely and accurate repairs; Researches parts manuals and internet for correct part numbers and sources non-stocked items through suppliers; Researches technical service bulletins and vehicle recall information; Manages parts inventory and maintains appropriate inventory levels; Maintains vendor network, participates in regular review of vendor pricing and performance; Checks repair orders, updates, and maintains fleet equipment records and history; Interacts professionally with all employees and vendors to foster and maintain positive, productive working relationships with automotive liaisons from public safety and other applicable departments; Performs other work related duties as assigned.
 
High school diploma or equivalent required; Minimum three years’ experience in an auto or truck fleet maintenance operation, or comparable experience or technical training helpful; Extensive knowledge of diagnostic, repair, and maintenance procedures for both automotive and truck systems; Must obtain Commercial Driver’s License (Class B) within 90 days of employment; Must obtain UST Operators Certification within 90 days of employment; Must obtain ASE P2 Certification within one year of employment; Knowledge of automotive fleet computer software including Windows based programs and detailed oriented data entry; Maintains accurate and well-organized fleet repair and parts inventory records using RTA fleet software and ensures data is up-to-date and easily accessible for future reference, reporting, and audits; Must follow all safety rules and regulations of the Village.
 
The salary range for this position is $67,495 - $86,143.  The annualized starting salary range is $67,495 - $74,414 (DOQ).
